LSS Location Sensitive Sound
LSS is a unique sound experience
Location Sensitive Soundsystem
Imagine…..
you walk into a room, call it an art installation or a museum room. You are given headphones and as you enter the room you discover that with every movement you make you hear a new sound. The fragments flow seamlessly into each other and it appears that the sounds are attached to the place where you walk or stand. If you move your head 10 cm, you can already hear a new sound when you are standing on the border of an area. By moving yourself through the space, you choose which sounds you hear and how long you keep listening. Fascinating if that were possible, isn't it?
We go one step further...
Imagine...now you not only hear the sound but the sound also has direction. To your left you hear a dog barking but when you turn your head to see where the sound is coming from you look in the direction of the sound and hear it there too. And just as easily, you step in the direction of the sound and it actually comes closer. Or you bend down and the sound flies over you. How cool would that be?
The, for now, final step...
Imagine....in the next room there is an object with a dim light on it. As you get closer, the object starts to turn and the light gets brighter and more colourful with every step you take. It is as if the object reacts to your presence and comes to life. When you walk away, the light goes out and the object stops moving. Isn't that cool...
All three scenarios
are now possible with LSS, Location Sensitive Sound. Built into the band of the headphones, the system sends a signal to light, sound, projectors, motors, in fact to everything that can be controlled via a computer command. And all that on the basis of the place in the room. The (exhibition) space is divided into different spots beforehand. Rectangular or round but even amorphous in shape. And the headphones know exactly where they are by means of four simple beacons hanging from the ceiling. Based on that information, a sound is played, a movement is started or a trigger is given to light or video. And when the headphones move from one place to another, there is a very smooth transition in sound or effect.
The precision of the system is extremely high. In the best case, an accuracy of 10cm can be achieved. And it does not matter how many headphones are in the room at the same time.
Apart from the headphones, there are also separate boxes available that can be worn around the neck. These boxes do not send out audio but take care of all other triggers. Light, video, movement, smell. The possibilities are endless and again, the triggers are given on the basis of the location in the room.
A Location Sensitive Trigger, in fact.
